We’ve recently seen several moves with players in very different stages of their careers that have ties to Georgia. By now I’m sure you’ve seen the news that Ricardo Clark has just signed with Eintracht Frankfurt of the German Bundesliga. Clark was an important part of a Houston Dynamo team that have been perennial contenders for the MLS Cup. Hopefully he’ll become an equally important player for Frankfurt and won’t have the difficulties seeing playing time that several other Americans have had over the years. Now is probably the best time in Clark’s career to make this move as he’s been solid contributor but seems to be looking for more. The only down side I see is if he struggles to see playing time it could harm his chances in the World Cup this summer. ( I love saying that “…World Cup this summer”).
Clint Mathis is also making a move. He leaves MLS Cup winning RSL to MLS Cup runner up LA Galaxy to be closer to family in the last years of his career. Clint’s had an up and down career and after falling off the radar has come back to show he still has what it takes to be a game changer. Clint was traded to LA during the MLS draft which brings us to our next set of players.
These three rookies are just beginning what we hope are equally successful careers of their own. They were recently drafted in Philadelphia at the MLS SuperDraft and will be putting in some work to break their way into the starting 11. Generation Adidas player, Jack McInerney will be joining the Philadelphia Union by way of the 7thpick in the first round. The 17 year old has been moving up the ranks of the US Youth National Teams and gives Philly Union Head Coach Peter Nowak a player he’s familiar with and can continue to mold. Steve Kinney and Sean Johnson were both picked up by the Chicago Fire who have been making several changes within the organization. We look forward to seeing these guys start their professional careers and wish them the best of luck.
