Silverbacks Reserves v. Jacksonville United F.C. Liveblog

Greetings from Finley Stadium in beautiful Chattanooga, Tenn. We’re less than 10 minutes away from kickoff between the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves and Jacksonville United F.C.

At stake is a place in the finals of the NPSL Southeast Division U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Tournament. Stay with us throughout the next two hours as I’ll be here talking about the game. Feel free to chime in using our comments!

Starting lineup for Jacksonville United F.C.: GK McCrory, D N. Salafrio, D Teague, D Donaldson, D Duncan, M Elmsater, M E. Vega, M H. Vega, M J. Salafrio, F Krizanovic, F Williams

Starting lineup for Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves: GK Ati, D Gutierrez, D Canovas, D Irigoyen, D Rodriguez, D Klute, M Lulic, M Arbelaez, M Morgan, F Green, F Cruz

Game is underway, Silverbacks in red, Jacksonville in blue. Small crowd here in the big stadium in downtown Chattanooga. You can bet there will be plenty more fans here later tonight when the hometown Chattanooga FC takes on Rocket City United in the other semifinal.

4th minute: Shot over goal by Arturo Cruz.

5th minute: Yellow card to Atlanta’s Juan Carlos Nandi, who got the start in place of Juan Arbelaez

7th minute: Lulic free kick headed just wide by Irigoyen

11th minute: Atlanta finding space going forward, haven’t been able to put a shot on goal yet. ¬†Kingsley Morgan tries to play a ball over top to Andrew Green but McCrory collects for Jacksonville.

13th minute: Still scoreless. Surprising that Wale Leyimu didn’t get the start for Jacksonville. He played 60 minutes in last night’s 1-0 win over the Knoxville Force but was very dangerous all game the last time Jacksonville and Atlanta met. We’ll probably see him as a sub in the 2nd half.

16th minute: Yellow card to Jacksonville forward. Checking on the name, it’s difficult to read their numbers from way up in the press box.

21st minute: First corner kick of the match to Jacksonville. Headed out by Ramiro Canovas for another corner. A couple heads on it and it’s sent clear by Juan Carlos Nandi. Danger averted. Free kick from about 25 yards coming up for Atlanta.

23rd minute: GOAL Jacksonville United FC. Break out after the Atlanta free kick, ball was switched to the right flank, where forward was unmarked. Eric Ati came off his line to challenge and Tyler Williams chipped it over

28th minute: GOAL Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves. Juan Carlos Nandi with a shot from outside the box that goes through Stuart McCrory’s hands. Jacksonville keeper should have had that one easily but Atlanta will take it. Tied 1-1 now in the 31st minute.

35th minute: Free kick for Jacksonville from about 35 yards out. Played into the box but nobody gets a head on it, goes wide of Ati’s goal.

38th minute: Left-footed shot from Nandi from right goes wide of far post.

42nd minute: Yellow card to Jacksonville’s Hector Vega after a hard foul on Fabian Irigoyen.

Halftime: We’re tied at a goal apiece between the Silverbacks Reserves and Jacksonville United. A little sloppy from Atlanta, but they’ve dominated possession and have had the bulk of the chances. A few times they’ve been caught out on the left side, one of those times leading to the Jacksonville goal. Should be an interesting second half as both teams have options up front on the bench. Look for Tornubari Nyonebue to come on for Atlanta and Leyimu to come on for Jacksonville. Also, bear in mind that Atlanta trailed 1-0 against Jacksonville back on May 14 and came back to win 3-1. I’ll be heading down to the field to take some pictures and will be offline for the first few minutes.

66th minute: Back at the desk, still 1-1. Only chance of note was a free kick from Alejandro Duque about 5 minutes ago that was saved comfortably by McCrory. In the meantime, both Leyimu and Nyonebue have come on for Jacksonville and Atlanta, respectively.

68th minute: Nick Burton plays it back for Nyonebue who unleashes a shot that goes wide right.

72nd minute: Nyonebue steals the ball in the box and only has the keeper to beat but fires his shot over. Need to put that one on net.

83rd minute: Still 1-1, Jacksonville with the better chances lately. Ati has made a save and punched clear in the last few minutes. Many changes for both sides and both teams trying to get a feel for themselves again.

85th minute: Nearly an own goal, as Atlanta crossed in from the right side and the Jacksonville defender volleyed it just over the goal.

90th minute: GOAL Atlanta!!! Alejandro Duque makes it 3-1 in stoppage time!!! Duque’s first goal in his first game with the Reserves.

FINAL: 3-1 Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves over Jacksonville United F.C.

Once again Atlanta falls behind to Jacksonville to score three unanswered to win. Goals from Nandi, Morgan and Duque put the Silverbacks Reserves into tomorrow night’s final where they will take on either Chattanooga F.C. or Rocket City United.
